The Greetings Issue explores the many different ways we say hello with words and gestures from all around the globe. Learn why Tibetan monks stick out their tongues, how the handshake made history, why one hello made a big difference in one kid’s life and more. Our inaugural issue features an illustrated world map of hellos, a brand-new comic, a bilingual story about two unlikely friends, a guide to creating your own secret handshake, an animal-themed way to play the game of telephone and DIY greeting cards.
Each issue of Mighty Kind also includes a “Destination” section that highlights a single country, region, or people, a “Big Idea” section, with pages devoted to critical thinking and self-development and a “Service” section that provides hands-on volunteer opportunities for kids to reach beyond themselves and do good in the world. There’s even a section for the grown-ups.
In this issue, we delve into Mexico, discuss diversity, highlight kids doing good, get tips for practicing greetings from a marriage and family therapist and send happy mail around the world—and we’re just getting started!
Cover art by Lourdes Villagómez.
Specs: Full-color, 64 pages, PDF file
Age Range: Mighty Kind is designed for kids ages 5 and up, but really, we think it’s for everyone.
